It doesn't matter whether Shabbos starts at 4 o'clock or 8 o'clock -- you'll only be ready for Shabbos fifteen minutes before it starts.
Corollary to Wolf's Law of the Variance of The Start of Shabbos:
It doesn't matter whether it's 6:30 or 11:30 -- you'll be zonked fifteen minutes after the Friday night meal ends.

ready 15 minutes before shabbos??? you are pretty optimistic... it is more like just afew minutes...
ReplyDeleteand 15 minutes after dinner? How about 15 seconds after barchu!!!
for some of us--i'm not implicating myself, of course--you'll only be ready for Shabbos eighteen minutes after it starts.
ReplyDeleteThe general Friday memory growing up is my dad coming home from work 10 minutes before candle lighting... no matter what time Shabbat was set to start.
ReplyDeleteNow that I think about it, it was probably his way of getting out of doing any kind of cleaning. The few times he was home with considerable time to spare, he washed the floors.
i agree with lion of zion, guilty as charged, i was always ready 18 min after candle lighting...
ReplyDeletehear hear
ReplyDeleteI'm an outlier on the charts. I'm almost already prepared for Shabbat by noon. If not, I'm a bit mess. However, I do use the last few minutes to set the timer for the light in the dining room and put on lipstick.
ReplyDeleteBut on Friday night I'm zonked no matter what. :)
Before I was married I would take off all Friday afternoon, finish what little prep remained from Thursday night, and take a nice long nap before lighting candles.
ReplyDeleteThen I married someone who can be counted on to be ready for Shabat 15 minutes after candlelighting time -- summer and winter. Fortunately we are compatible in just about everything else :).

ReplyDeleterav palachi used to take a nap every erev shabbat
Wolf, you made a mistake. This is science, and you classified it as humor.
ReplyDeleteJust pointing this out, not carping.
terrific.Isn't it amazing.
ReplyDeleteIf it is as good as it is supposed to be, then you can never truly be ready or worthy of it. That's the glowing picture I keep getting. D*mn this stupid job... I'd like to get a shot at trying anyhow.
ReplyDeleteso true, so true!
ReplyDeleteDo you have any formulas of how to keep the kids entertained during Shabbos day?
