Photos: What Is It? The Answer!

Earlier this week, I posted a photo and asked people to guess what was the subject of the photo.  Here again is the photo:

Canon XSi, 65mm macro lens (5x magnification), f/11, 20 seconds.

The answer is that the photo is the middle of this flower:

The first Anonymous poster said "a plant." While that's technically true, it is very vague. "Fort," however, was the first person to come up with the correct, specific answer -- the inner part of a flower. So, he wins the 20 Wolfish Points. :)

  1. I got it in the first comment! It was a plant!

I was actually gonna write flower initially, but decided to be broader to expand my possibilities ;-)

  2. What are they redeemable for and at what rate? E.g. how many Wikfusg oiubts would I need to arrange a werewolf bit for the YWN anonotroll of my choice? ;)

  3. I guessed popcorn, but my comment was deleted? Popcorn comes from corn, which is a plant. Oh, well, I wish I had won!

  4. Darn, I thought flower, then thought that's too easy.

Also, the pic kept making me think of cauliflower.

    CLASSIC word verification: Drool.

  5. 20 second exposure??

    Yep.

The macro lens I was using is the MP-E65. While most macro lenses top out at 1:1 magnification, this lens goes up to 5:1. The down side of that is that at the more extreme magnifications, it eats up light. Add to that the fact that I was using an f/11 aperture (to get greater depth of field). And lastly, the lighting in my dining room (where the picture was taken) is not the greatest. All that meant that to get a proper exposure, I needed 20 seconds.

  6. FYI & off topic:

When you brought Turtledove's Guns of the South, I brought Flint's Pyramid Scheme (where the Tech doesn't work).

Guess you didn't get the reference, I apologize

  7. Here's the link YWN didn't let through, probably due to the spiritual evils of leining, HTML, or both.

    the discussion thread

Like I said on YWN, it's a google group, so I don't know if you have access. You can always join if you haven't already. I highly recommend it.
