Ramat Beit Shemesh: Please Help!

Over the past few days, violence has broken out in Ramat Beit Shemesh, as some thugs have apparently decided that they were empowered to act as judge, jury and possibly executioners.

As has been reported in many places, Chareidim in Ramat Beit Shemesh have been relying on ever-increasing violent tactics to enforce their version of Chareidi Judaism on the rest of the residents of Ramat Beit Shemesh. One Chareidi resident, Tuvia Stern, has stood up to the thugs in a non-violent manner. For his troubles, his car has been trashed and he has been beaten.

DovBear, Rabbi Maryles, Rafi and others have done a wonderful job of chronicling the situation. Please follow this link to DovBear's blog and see what you can do to help to try to restore normalcy to the people of Ramat Beit Shamash.

A ger like me might comment on blogs, but no one's going to listen to me cause they sure didn't anywhere else. That doesn't mean my feelings are any less legitimate, but if it means anything know I agree with you.

So I may not call, but there's one more voice out here telling you you're not wrong. Sometimes the truest path of zealous righteousness is to not do anything but lead by example. These men don't seem to know that. I hope those who oppose them can set a louder brighter example.

When you're dealing with nutjobs, common sense, much less common decency, may be too much to expect. A good two year-stint in the army would go a long way into making menschen out of these wackos."Derech Eretz Kodma Latorah" was apparently left out of the syllabus where they were schooled.
