Donate Blood Tonight. I'll Be There...

If you're in the Marine Park area of Brooklyn at some time tonight, stop by 3307 Avenue N and donate blood. Come by and say hello... you might even get to meet me (although you'll have to guess which blood donor I am). I'll be there dropping off a pint of the red stuff.

If the chance to meet me doesn't attract you, how about free food for the donors?

So, come on down and help save a life and get some free food.

Place: 3307 Avenue N (the awning says "K'hal B'Nei Torah, but the shul since changed hands. Please note that there is another building that says K'hal B'Nei Torah about a block and a half away without an awning... that's not it. The proper place has a dark awning and has Mr. Nosh on the corner.

Date: Tonight. November 20.

Time: 5:45 to 9:00 (although I certainly won't be there before 7:00 -- but don't let that stop you from coming earlier.)

I always feel bad when I hear about blood drives - just thinking about them makes me want to faint, but I'm an O+. Sigh.

Khal B'Nei Torah is R' Shiffinbauers Shul.

But that's so cool, didn't know Viglers shul was having a blood drive. I never donated blood before. Too bad I have class, a vort and wedding to go too, that I can't stop by. But maybe on my way home from class I'll go in that direction to see what's happening.

Right. The blood drive is NOT in R. Schiffenbauer's shul -- it's where his shul USED TO BE.

I don't even know what I am (in regards to blood type).

So I passed by, and I saw a line inside the shul, so people went. When my father passed by he said he saw tons of woman going in there. He was wondering what it was about, so I told him they were having a blood drive, so then he said that makes sense.

One wonders if Wolf O+ is the same as human O+. :)

Yep, I'm a pint lighter now. However, I was there from about eight until nine and didn't see any line.

Seems like everyone is O+. How do you find out what type you are?

it took an hour for them to draw blood?

I passed by at like 7:30 to 7:45ish.

btw, you noticed the new restaurant "on the grill" that just opened today?

if you donate, they'll tell you when they send you a card. I'm a A+ myself

Babysitter,

Nah, it only took a few minutes. I hung around for a while afterwords, had a bite to eat, etc.

And, yes, I saw that On The Grill finally opened. You must live very close to me. :)

Wolf: omg, I just realized something, I might know who you are. Is your first name Wolf?

BrooklynWolf said...

It's possible you may know me. Why don't you email me?

The Wolf

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

ok, I'll e-mail you.

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

umm, it didn't go through, it gave me a mailer-deamon, failure notice.

BrooklynWolf said...

Yeah, I had a full mailbox. :)

Try it again...

Wolf, really off topic but are you experiencing blog difficulties? I notice that your comment count under your posting is still "zero" even though there are comments when you click on comments. happening to me too. Also, I can't draft anything, since auto-save has not been working since this morning for me, and it won't let me publish anything I type new. Any ideas?

ProfK,

you can donate anytime you want at New York Blood Center, various hospitals, etc.

also keep an eye out for occasional blood drives, at schools, communmity centers, etc.

Lion Of Zion: well I wasn't going to donate blood, lol, I was just going to stop by to see if people I knew where there.

Really, dor yeshorim was bad enough, I don't think I would willingly cause that to myself again. Although I do wish I could help out.

The Wolf, his wife and I used to donate regularly at the Maimo blood bank and then spend a pleasant Sunday afternoon at Shea with the free tickets we'd get for donating blood. The Wife would invariably have a book and at some point I'd end up choking on a mint... ah, those were the days.

JOOC, why can't O+ people donate blood?

BrooklynWolf said...

Of course they can, Pesky. I'm O+.

However, I don't seem to remember the mint-choking portion of those excursions.

I think Ezzie's point was that he get's weak-kneed just thinking about donating blood, but feels guilty about not doing such because he's O+, the universal donor.
Right, Ezzie?

I think O- is the universal. O+, which I am as well, can donate to anyone who is +.

I was supposed to donate after work today, but woke up with a lot of coughing and a stuffed nose, courtesy of my kids. They don't want sick people donating. Besides blood, I also donate platelets, takes a lot longer, but helps a lot more people in one donation.
